Unique, Handmade Porcelain Mug including a Hummingbird by Andrea Holmes
Andrea and I have come together to create these gorgeous Humminbird Mugs!! She's a McKinney, Texas, based artist who paints for a living! She mostly paints birds, but also lots of other things including animals eating pizza. You can see more of her work on her website!
Covered in florals using transfer images and 3D shapes.
The square bottom is extremely unique and begins on the wheel, then darted and shaped by hand to give the square form.
Handles are pulled by hand and attached.
3D accents are pressed from molds and attached by hand.
Everything is fired to cone 6 which makes it super durable for long-time use.
Hummingbirds are overglaze decals added after the glaze firing and fired again to permanently attach to mugs.
I highly recommend hand-washing to keep the surface layer from wearing away (handmade pots tend to wear out in the dishwasher faster than commercially made pots). However, these are microwaveable and the handle stays very cool to the touch even with boiling water inside (I tested it out!).
Porcelain is such a cool material to work with, and it does tend to crack in the kiln, so any surface cracks you see (unless already noted above) are filled in completely with glaze and will be fine for every day use.
I also love the translucency of porcelain! Try holding your cup up to the light! You should be able to see the shadows of the design or your fingers through the walls of the cup.

Handwash Only as caustic detergents in the dishwasher will cause the surface to wear away very quickly and become dull and susceptible to discoloration and damage.
